Released in 2016 as the sixth instalment in Macallan's celebrated Masters of Photography series, Rare Cask Black Steven Klein Limited Edition paired one of the distillery's most distinctive modern whiskies with the provocative vision of acclaimed American photographer Steven Klein.
Rare Cask Black was created using a selection of sherry-seasoned oak casks that had matured a subtly peated style of Macallan spirit, resulting in a whisky unlike any other in the distillery's modern range. While unmistakably Macallan in its rich dried fruit, spice and oak character, Rare Cask Black introduced an elegant thread of wood smoke and earthy complexity, showcasing a style of spirit rarely encountered from the distillery.
For this special Masters of Photography edition, Steven Klein explored themes of mystery, passion and transformation through a dramatic visual narrative presented across the elaborate folding display case. His distinctive cinematic style brought a darker, more atmospheric dimension to the series, creating a striking fusion of whisky, photography and storytelling.
