Kilkerran 16 Year Old Bottled 2020
Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 46%
A 2020 release of Kilkerran 16 Year Old is one of the most highly regarded expressions from Glengyle Distillery, showcasing the distinctive character that has quickly established Kilkerran as a modern Campbeltown classic. Matured predominantly in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring, it offers a beautifully balanced combination of maritime complexity, gentle peat smoke and rich orchard fruit.
Produced at Glengyle, the distillery revived by J. & A. Mitchell in 2004, Kilkerran takes its name from the original Gaelic settlement of Campbeltown. The 16-year-old demonstrates the benefits of extended ageing, delivering greater depth and refinement than the younger releases while retaining the distillery's hallmark coastal character.
On the nose you can expect, notes of vanilla, citrus peel, honey and baked apples mingle with subtle sea spray and soft earthy peat. The palate is rich and oily with layers of orchard fruits, malted barley, toffee and warming spices, complemented by gentle smoke and a distinctive maritime salinity. A long, elegant finish leaves lingering notes of oak, pepper, citrus and soft peat embers.
A superb example of modern Campbeltown whisky and an increasingly sought-after annual release from one of Scotland's most celebrated revival distilleries.
