Johnnie Walker Blue Label 1990s Korean Import
Blended Scotch Whisky
Johnnie Walker & Sons 75cl / 43%
A late 1990s bottling of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, presented in the original 75cl format at 43% ABV and imported for the South Korean market, as indicated by the Korean-language back label. Introduced in 1992, Blue Label was created to recreate the rich, complex style of Johnnie Walker's finest nineteenth-century blends, using a selection of exceptionally mature and rare Scotch whiskies drawn from the company's extensive reserves.
Contemporary rumours suggested that Blue Label—and its predecessor, Johnnie Walker Oldest, which was promoted as containing whiskies aged between 15 and 60 years—was originally developed to make use of exceptionally old casks whose strength had naturally fallen below the legal minimum of 40% ABV for Scotch whisky. While never officially confirmed, this has long been part of Blue Label's folklore and reflects the emphasis placed on incorporating rare, long-matured whiskies into the blend.
Rather than carrying an age statement, Blue Label is selected for style and quality, with only a small proportion of casks considered suitable for inclusion. The resulting whisky is renowned for its velvety texture and layers of honey, dried fruit, vanilla, gentle smoke and polished oak.
This example features the distinctive blue-green flint glass bottle inspired by John Walker's nineteenth-century design, complete with the iconic slanting label and gold capsule. The rear label also reproduces Alexander Walker's famous 1888 declaration, "Our Blend Cannot Be Beat," a phrase that has become synonymous with the Johnnie Walker name.
A desirable 1990s export bottling in the original 75cl format, offering an increasingly collectible example of one of Scotch whisky's most iconic premium blends.
